Students will receive a project at the beginning of the summer and present it in our project expo at the end of the summer. Job Summary/Objective:
The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and
productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with
“real world” applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment
after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of
study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.
Note: All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

Key Responsibilities
· Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and
will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.
· You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational
leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.
· You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and
offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and
community service /volunteer initiatives.
· You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to
a world-class program community.

Long Description
Project Summary
This role is part of Southwire’s High Voltage Project Management Organization (HV PMO). The intern will support a maturing PMO by helping strengthen project governance, tollgate discipline, project financial visibility, execution performance, productivity initiatives, and continuous improvement across Commercial, Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Services, and Project Management teams.
The intern will work on practical, business-facing projects that help translate PMO processes into repeatable execution, reliable data, better financial insight, and measurable business impact.
Description of Responsibilities
Amongst the responsibilities, and skills required:.
PMO Program Structure and Governance Support
- Support the alignment between actual project execution and PMO software, ensuring tollgates, approvals, deliverables, risks, quality checkpoints, schedules, and project financials are captured accurately.
- Assist with project financial visibility, including support for as-sold versus actual cost analysis, margin tracking, cost-of-quality review, and project-level reporting.
- Help improve KPI reporting, dashboards, project health visibility, action item tracking, and recurring PMO management review materials.
- Partner with project managers and cross-functional stakeholders to identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements.
Productivity, Post-Mortem, and Business Process Support
- Support productivity initiatives for the PMO and Field Services Resource team through data analysis, process mapping, action tracking, and implementation follow-up.
- Assist with project post-mortems by organizing inputs, capturing lessons learned, evaluating financial and operational performance, and helping convert findings into improvement actions.
- Potential project examples include tollgate and PMO software alignment, project financial dashboards, manufacturing cost and cost-of-quality analysis, post-mortem action tracking, Field Services resource planning, Salesforce pipeline data quality, and commercial quote process improvement.
- In addition, there is the potential to support the HV Sales and Commercial teams by improving business intelligence, pipeline visibility, customer and opportunity data quality, and quote process discipline.
This internship offers hands-on exposure to project management, financial and operational data, continuous improvement, and cross-functional execution in a growing project-based business. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with data, processes, and stakeholders to help improve how projects are planned, tracked, executed, and reviewed.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Required qualifications include
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 3.2 GPA.
- Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Certificate (e.g., CAPM) is desirable.
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in project management, process improvement, or structured problem‑solving environments.
