Long Description

This position is responsible for income tax compliance preparation and review (income tax provisions, income tax returns and internal tax reporting). This position is also heavily involved in the tax account maintenance and reconciliation. This individual will assist in management, review, and development of less experienced tax professionals.
This position will also assist in the achievement of Southwire’s goal of simplifying, automating & digitalizing internal processes. This individual will assist our technology transformation by working closely with Tax (tax provision and compliance, global tax planning, transfer pricing, regional tax, and tax audit defense), our Internal IT team and other external business partners. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally to deliver automation and simplification solutions.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and/or review federal and multi-state income and franchise tax returns, as well as provisions and internal reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain, review, and reconcile tax accounts, including tax basis balance sheet.
  • Conduct tax research relating to tax law.
  • Coordinate with Tax Managers for all tax planning and compliance matters.
  • Effectively communicate all tax and compliance issues and opportunities to the Tax Managers.
  • Assist in federal and state income and franchise tax return audits, including notices and requests from various taxing authorities.
  • Meticulous tracking of tax payments and filing deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance, controls, security, and sustainability remain forefront in solution implementations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Long Description

Critical Competencies:

  • Technical income tax knowledge, including federal corporate/partnership and multi-state income tax law.
  • Experience with ASC 740 - accounting for income tax.
  • Experience with tax account reconciliations and monthly department budget reconciliations.
  • Prior experience with calculating and tracking distributions to shareholders.
  • Personal drive, ownership, and enthusiasm.

Skills:

  • Experience with SAP or knowledge of other ERP systems.
  • Experience with Corptax income tax return preparation software.
  • Experience with Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Proficient with Thomson Reuters and BNA tax research web-based platforms.
  • Experience performing data manipulation, analysis, and automation using ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and visualization tools (including Alteryx, Tableau, and Bots).
  • Analytical skills, verbal and written communication skills, initiative, teamwork, and technical income tax expertise.
  • Ability to work as an individual and in a collaborative environment with a high level of integrity and professionalism.

 

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS in Accounting required.
  • Master’s in Accounting or Tax preferred.
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience must include either one to two years of tax compliance experience for a large multinational manufacturing company, or two years of experience in the tax group of a national public accounting firm.

 

Location is: Hybrid Corporate HQ Carrollton or ATL Battery Office (2 days a week onsite)
