The Machine Shop Departmental Team Leader is responsible for ensuring that machining operations is actively engaged in meeting daily customer demand and production schedules.  The Departmental Team Lead provides effective training and coaching to the machinists, operators and CNC/programmers/setup personnel and ensures safety and quality standards are always met.  The Departmental Team Lead will be primarily involved in the fabrication, assembly, fixturing, brazing/troubleshooting aspect of existing and new products.  The Departmental Team Lead is the liaison between the Machine Shop and Engineering especially in the developmental process.  functions as the Machine Shop Supervisor during vacation and unforeseen absences.


Essential Job Functions:

Works with supervisor to manage and prioritize staffing assignments to ensure customer demand and the production schedules are met.

Acts as a mentor to new/existing employees, provides training, and ensures an understanding of the processes to meet quality requirements.

Drives efficiencies and holds employees accountable for meeting quality/job times.  May include re-training and reinforcement of standards.

Functions as a Quality Inspector – ensuring accurate parts are produced.

Troubleshoots and uses problem solving skills to help ensure stable operations meeting on-time delivery and quality standards.

Identifies problems or concerns with quality, SOP’s, equipment, and materials.  Is actively involved in the troubleshooting and problem- solving process.  Ensures that the Machine Shop Supervisor is informed and included in the problem-solving process.

Works with the Engineering Department in the developmental process.

Works closely with Engineering, Sales, and other Production Supervisors, Shipping/Warehouse to resolve issues/conflicts resulting in production stoppages/gaps.

Identifies, sustains, and drives Lean Manufacturing and 5S activities.

Works on the various teams following instructions, processes, and procedures (SOPs).

Completes required documentation relating to business or ISO requirements.

Performs supervisory duties in the Supervisor’s absence.


Minimum Qualifications:

5+ years of machining background, to include fabrication (manual machining, finished assembly/forming) CNC programming a plus; must be able to perform mill set ups.

Basic computer knowledge; Exposure and/or ability to learn Syteline, ERP System.

Ability to troubleshoot, read blueprints, understands the specs; fabrication knowledge

Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications

Previous leadership experience desired.

Ability to analyze and solve problems.

Ability to work with others collaboratively.
