Job Description

Program Dates: Summer 2024 (May 20 – Aug 9) 
Time Commitment: Full-time 
Format: On-site (Engineering & Modernization Office) 

 

Role Summary 
Under the guidance and direction of the E&M (Engineering & Modernization) Division’s EHS Director, along with support from the E&M EHS Team, this role will be working with the team to assist with conducting research and developing specific OHSMS elements based on the ANSI Z10.0 and ISO 45001 standards. This individual must be a self-starter that is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to proactively identify problems and propose effective solutions using excellent communication and analytical skills.

 

Description of Responsibilities 
This role is largely project based with responsibilities for completing assignments related to the development of the OHSMS (e.g., legal registry, aspects & impacts, risk register). Additional duties will include but not limited to the following:  

  • Maintain Monthly EHS Project Audit Scorecard and other EHS data related assignments. 
  • Conduct EHS Project Audits 
  • Participate in Preconstruction EHS Planning activities. 
  • Participate in Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSR) and risk assessment activities. 
  • Participate in incident investigations. 

 

Qualifications, Experience, Skillset Requirements & (Preferences) 

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing an Engineering, EHS or related technical degree with a Minimum 2.5 GPA 
  • Must possess a sound working knowledge of EHS Management Systems, ANSI Z10.0 and ISO 45001 Standards 
  • Sound hazard recognition and risk assessment knowledge and skills 
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction OHS Training and/or OSHA 30 Hour General Industry OHS Training (Preferred)  
  • OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 51 Outreach Trainer (Preferred) 
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on safety and teamwork 
  • Ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential information 
  • Good planning, organizational, analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills 
  • Knowledge of OHS regulations and hazard control methods 
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other applications as needed. 
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License, proof of vehicle registration and automobile insurance and reliable transportation to/from work. 

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions 

  • Physical activities listed below are representative of conditions needed to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
  • Potential exposure to varying temperatures ranging from ≤ 32°F to ≥ 90 °F and all-weather conditions when visiting projects with outside construction activity. 
  • Potential exposure to cramped workspaces, sounds and noise levels that require hearing protection. 
  • Must be able to sit, talk, hear, and stand frequently throughout the day. Must be able to climb, reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl frequently. The position occasionally may require lifting objects (up to 30 pounds). 
  • Potential exposure to hazardous conditions, heights and /or hazardous equipment. May work with or around chemicals that require knowledge of a safety data sheet.
