Job Summary
Southwire’s CableTechSupportTM group plays a critical role in servicing the rapid growth of residential, commercial, industrial, OEM, and utility markets in North America and internationally. Southwire’s CableTechSupportTM Services was established with a mission statement of providing the best-in-class consultation and technical services in the wire & cable industry. The group utilizies a cloud-based CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system to track and to prioritize over 20,000 engineering tickets per year. The current team consists of 20 members featuring multiple engineering disciplines. We are looking for a senior or lead engineer to further enhance our portfolio in the application, field support, business development, and service innovation of wire & cable products.
This experienced individual will interface directly with diverse customers, drive conversations, lead troubleshooting sessions, while partnering with agents, distributors, inside & outside sales, operations, and product management to deliver technical support to retail/DIY users, electricians, contractors, standards engineers, utility owners, and EPCs.
The leadership and the contribution from this role will ensure that we can continue to meet the ever-changing needs in data center, factory automation, renewable energy (wind, solar, BESS), automotive, electric vehicle (charging/infrastructure), telecommunication/5G, sustainable power generation, petrochemical, industrial, mass transit, agriculture, lighting, healthcare, water treatment, government/military/port authority, infrastructure expansions, strategic undergrounding, storm response, and grid modernization projects
Key Responsibilities
• Execute Southwire’s digital transformation strategy by completing the CableTechSupport.southwire.com engineering s spec integration.
• Accelerate Southwire’s AI strategy by implementing continuous improvement for the existing AI enabled Chatbot to answer wire and cable questions.
• Create and launch innovative, value adding engineering Re3 tools and Re3 calculators protected through intellectual property and patent applications.
• Contribute to new product development ideas to the R&D stage gate process by sharing customer pain points, unique spec requirements, or the latest codes and standard changes.
• Resolve field issues and mitigate customer concerns by visiting jobsites, leading investigations, and driving cable forensic testing.
• Expand CableTechSupportTM Services’ brandname by authoring Re3 whitepapers, publishing industry articles, hosting live webinars via Southwire Solutions University, and serving as keynote speakers on panels and/or conferences.
• Extensive application knowledge of all wire & cable products and an impeccable ability to interpret the latest industry codes & standards, including NEC/NFPA, NEMA, UL, IEEE, CSA, ICEA, AEIC, NESC, ASTM and IEC.
• Lead codes and standards development activities and drive specification through the adoption of new requirements.
• Identify jobsite challenges, customer needs, project obstacles and create tailored products and solutions to meet the certifications or compliance, product functionalities, long-term exposures, and advanced property vs. performance.
• Develop and deliver engineering presentations and in-depth product or service training seminars to increase revenue via retail sales, electrical distribution channel sales, and contractor solutions.
• Prepare formal Re3 technical reference documents to educate customers and to assist end users on cable designs, ratings, electrical parameters, installation methods, and application do and don’ts.
• Hands-on experience or knowledge in cable accessories including connector, splices, terminations, cable pulling equipment, field testing options, diagnostic, inspection, and failure analysis.
• Propose and design alternative or advanced product system solutions to enhance reliability, improve resilience, and extend the life cycle of the overall electrical system.
• Perform cable sizing calculations based on the NEC, ICEA, IEC, IEEE, or thermal methods.
• Develop and launch novel products that meet customer needs, while considering factors like cost, value-ad, feasibility, and scalability.
Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required. Master of Science (M.S) in Engineering is preferred but not required.
• 15+ years of application support and/or product engineering experience is required.
• 7+ years of knowledge in industry standards
• Ability to travel to technical conferences, job sites, and plant locations as needed (Up to 50% travel).
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with a large multi-functional department internally and externally.
• Speak other languages such as Spanish, Portuguese or others is a good plus.
