Must have experience repairing Forklifts to include Hydralic and phenudralics

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of a supervisor, an individual will be expected to perform tasks related to the maintenance and repair of forklifts.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Proficiently perform assigned tasks in the forklift maintenance/repair area.

Must be versed in all Southwire rules and regulations governing the use of forklifts.

Select and use applicable tools and materials to accomplish assigned tasks in an efficient and safe manner.

Perform assigned tasks with input from supervisor, maintenance work order, forklift operator, and maintenance manuals.

Select and use correct lubricants and hydraulic oils for all equipment.

Complete all forms, as required by management, such as maintenance work orders, inspection reports, P.M. check lists, etc., using hard copy and/or computer generated forms.

Must handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact.

Be familiar with maintenance procedures and operating standards.

Know the location of all switches, valves, tools and emergency equipment in assigned areas.

Be familiar with fire fighting procedures.

Must be trained in confined space safety and emergency rescue procedures.

Attend and satisfactorily complete training courses as prescribed by management.

Maintain a safe and clean working area.

Report all accidents, incidents, injuries and unsafe acts or conditions, immediately, to the supervisor.

Perform all other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Thorough knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.

Must be able to work with others in a small crew.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and maintenance manuals.

Must be able to use personal computer and utilize all maintenance and supply screens as determined by management.

Must be physically able to expend considerable effort to perform assigned tasks.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Could be exposed to working conditions such as inclement weather, heat, cold, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, water, oil and heights.  Where conditions require, protective equipment will be issued to the employee.

This job requires the individual to climb flights of stairs on an as-needed basis.  Some of these are ladders for equipment access, some are regular type steps, and others are at steep inclines.

The individual must also work in awkward positions daily to service all required equipment.

Individual must use at least 10-20 pounds of force on most jobs and occasionally is required to move between 50-100 pounds.

Extensive use of hands/tools for repairs required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma, or equivalent, is required.

Must be able to satisfactorily complete certification program for Forklift Repairman.

Must have a valid forklift truck operator’s license and keep in possession when repairing forklift.

Normally requires a minimum of 18 months applicable experience.
