The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher. Our goal is to give students meaningful work that builds on what they are learning in the classroom. Our programs are project based. Job Summary

Develops engineering solutions supporting different business segments and collaborating with operations,
production, sales and product management. Analyzes engineering data and processes to improve product
reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Implements multidisciplinary engineering practices to optimize
functionality and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new compounds to meet the performance requirements of the intended applications.
    • Optimize existing compounds for cost, performance and quality
    • Evaluate raw materials, raw material suppliers, and compounds for cost reduction and quality
    improvements.
    • Perform standardized testing in the plastic laboratories.
    • Characterize the chemical and physical characteristics of polymers and formulations using equipment such
    as DSC, TGA, FTIR, Rheometers, and related equipment.
    • Generate compound prototype formulations on pilot-lab compounding equipment
    • Document and communicate test results within multiple tiers of the corporate infrastructure and provide
    input for specifications on compounds and raw materials.
    • Keep abreast of new technology in compounding and extrusion fields as well as industry requirements
    making sure it is incorporated where feasible.
    • Interpret and implement regulatory standards and methodologies and provide technical assistance to
    compounding and extrusion operations.
    • Complete assigned projects while adhering to deadlines given by the PVC Formulations Manager.
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    • Complies with all policies and standards

Required Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree - Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other science field

0-2 years - Experience in a lab or production environment is preferred. Experience with Wire & Cable industry a plus.
