Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, clients, co-workers and supervisors.  Responsible for coordinating and facilitating hourly employees in the performance of their assigned duties.  Ensuring that company goals of safety, quality and production are met while maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.  This position is an entry level position for most management positions within Southwire.


Description of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Motivate diverse workforce to continuous improvement in production, quality and safety goals.
  • Keep employees informed of policies, procedures and operational changes.  Perform merit and wage reviews, hiring and discipline.  Enforce company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Proactive involvement in maintaining safety rules, conducting safety meetings, employee safety education, and improving safety awareness throughout the organization.
  • Initiate and attend meetings to ensure continuous improvement in processes and work habits.  Coordinate and encourage employee involvement in team building meetings, projects, and company policies and procedures.
  • Minimize scrap, and maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor labor reports, payroll reports and make daily updates to computer reports, and cooperate with all other departments and shifts.
  • Maintains good housekeeping to improve safety and material flow.
  • Assists with production problems, making sure tools and equipment are available.  Initiates continuous process improvements.


Qualifications and Experience Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Management or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems and basic electrical principles. Ability to use standard electrical and mechanical measuring devices (i.e., multimeter, micrometer, calipers).  Solid oral, written and listening communication skills necessary.  Requires enthusiasm, initiative, and effective judgment in a fast-paced, results-orientated environment.  Must be receptive to sudden and frequent changes in priorities.  Basic computer skills.
  • Continuous mental and/or visual attention to manufacturing functions.  Work performed in an environment with possible temperature extremes.  Continuous standing throughout 8 – 12 hour period.  90% of time spent on shop floor.  Lifting up to 45 lbs., frequent pulling, pushing and bending.  This position will involve work “on” and “off” the shift.
