Job Summary

 

Designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization's environmental, health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with regulations | Responsibilities are within the Environmental Health and Safety Function as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines.

General Summary: We’re looking for a Safety Specialist who prides themselves on their ability to think creatively and provide innovative solutions to complex problems to join our team. Position Overview: Under the direction of the EHS Manager, the Safety Specialist assists with the management of the EHS Management processes, continuous improvement projects, training, and special projects within the facility.

Key Responsibilities

 

• Lead efforts to enhance hazard recognition, promote injury prevention, drive employee engagement, and improve safe behaviors at the Heflin facility.

• Assist with the development and implementation of organizational Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Programs and Standards.

• Participate in Job Hazard Analysis activities. • Conduct safety audits to ensure compliance with Southwire’s Environmental, Health & Safety Programs, Procedures and Standards along with applicable federal, state, and local laws OHS related rules and regulations.

• Identify actual and potential hazards and provide consultation to eliminate and/or control hazards and manage risk to acceptable levels.

• Assist with the company’s Contractor/Supplier Pre-Qualification Process and related data, which is managed using Avetta, a web-based contractor pre-qualification safety management application.

• Assist with the development of OHS training materials and delivery of OHS Training Classes.

• Conduct and document root cause analysis investigations of all incidents (Near-misses, Injury-Free Events, First Aid/Minor and OSHA Recordable Injuries) and recommend countermeasures/corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of incidents.

• Drive efforts to achieve and maintain OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

Required Education & Experience

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor Science (B.S.) Degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) preferred; but will consider candidates with other Bachelor’s Degrees in an Engineering or Science discipline accompanied with relevant job experience.

• Minimum 2 years heavy industrial / Manufacturing safety experience.

• OSHA 30 Hour Safety Course. • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
