Travel Requirements:  In this position, you must be able to travel throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico as may be required from time to time.

Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
This position is responsible for providing safety leadership through best-in-class strategies, programs, and processes, in support of a diverse workforce. In leading our Culture of Zero, the EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, directing, and enforcing EH&S procedures, programs and processes and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements and to eliminate or minimize EH&S risks to the Company, its employees, the environment, and the communities in which the company operates. 

The duties for this position are leading environmental, safety and health matters, education/training, execution and auditing of safe work procedures, coordination of incident investigations, injury prevention plans, EHS audits/inspections, safety/security projects, contractor safety, communications, and reporting as required to the EHS Director and regulatory agencies as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create synergy and lead the Environmental Safety & Health and OPS culture at your site.  Develop and monitor effective EHS management strategies, provide recommendations and technical expertise on regulatory compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate policies, programs, procedures, and initiatives that impact the safety and well-being of employees, property, and equipment.
  • Perform worksite assessments to determine and evaluate risks, assess potential hazards and controls, investigate incidents, maintain, and evaluate incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans.  
  • Audit and monitor activities to ensure all safety and health regulatory requirements are being met. Includes but not limited to:  Key Performance Measures (KPIs), TTIs expectations, identify opportunities for improvement and provide recommendations based on findings.
  • Perform and oversee the investigation of incidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions including interfacing with workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and the return-to-work strategies.
  • Lead the incident reporting process and maintain required records related to workplace issues and incidents, as well as health, safety, and loss control investigations, working collaboratively within the organization.
  • Provide direction and support to achieve zero recordable incidents through behavioral-based safety, injury-free events (IFEs), safety interventions, human performance principles (Pre-Job Brief), hazard identification/elimination, work practice controls, employee engagement and other company.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance in risk-related matters, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental, incident investigation, business resiliency and occupational health processes and regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct monthly and or annual training of employees in matters related to environmental, safety, health compliance, behavior-based safety principles, and energy-based safety components
  • Partner with operation leaders to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze key EHS metrics to assist operations in the execution of continual improvement plans. Identifies budgetary needs to address risk reduction and compliance assurance. Ensures key performance metrics, including occupational injury/illness and environmental sustainability results are accurately reported and communicated.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Minimum Education Level - Bachelors
  • Specialized degree - Occupational Safety or related field
  • Years of experience - 5+
  • Certification: CSP / CUSP, and/or a willingness to acquire the required credentials within a stipulated time upon hire
  • Field of expertise - Safety role within an electrical, power generation, construction, manufacturing, and/or a related work environment
  • Preferred field of expertise - Utility, Power Generation and/or Distribution, and/or Construction
  • Travel requirements – Up to 50% domestic
