Job Summary

This position oversees the Southwire 12 For Life program and production facility located on site at our Florence AL location. 12 For Life is a collaborative partnership between Southwire and Florence City Schools that provides classroom instruction and on-the-job training to high school students inside a manufacturing facility to help students maximize post-graduation job potential. Students work an abbreviated schedule and are compensated and offered the opportunity to work full-time for the company upon graduation and completion of the program.

 

The 12 for Life Value Stream Manager manages the program, student employees, fulltime team members, production, equipment and material resources.  The VSM ensures a safe work environment for all team members, while maintaining continuous operational execution and production of quality products that are delivered on time to customers within established cost targets.  The VSM serves as a member of the Southwire Florence leadership team and works closely with various Florence City School System representatives. This individual is responsible for managing the facility in a way that promotes a positive and productive work environment for the 12 for Life Program participants and ensures that all student-employees learn skills that enable them to better contribute to society and the workforce.

Key Responsibilities

Schedule and supervise all team members while emphasizing the skills needed to accomplish safety, quality, on-time delivery and product cost goals.

Work closely with the Florence City School System on a daily basis.

Manage all value stream related KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) (SQDCI).

Drive Southwire Culture of Zero within the manufacturing/distribution environments by demonstrating Safe and Quality conscious work habits.

Co-leads recordable or significant case investigations including root-cause and corrective actions.

Responsible for ensuring the execution of findings of accident investigations and safety alerts within their value stream.

Ensure policies and processes are deployed uniformly throughout the value stream.

Lead problem solving events and follow-up with corrective actions for completion.

Develop a highly motivated and committed workforce.

Actively leads the Southwire DHP (DAILY HUDDLE PROCESS) process and share information related to value stream as needed. 

Create a standard for value stream process and ensure entire team is properly trained, resourced, supplied and managed to attain the objectives.

Required Education & Experience

Bachelors degree in business or related engineering field required, along with minimum 3 years directly related manufacturing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess strong willingness to coach, as well as strong leadership skills.

Must be very professional and understand that they represent the 12 for Life Program at all times.

Must understand and support the goals and values of the Southwire 12 for Life program.

Must have excellent verbal and written skills along with exceptional interpersonal skills.

Preferred Education & Experience

Background in working with young adults is a plus.

Prior experience working in education or related field is a plus.
